Early warnings for safer operations
Small changes in fish behavior can provide early warnings that are difficult to detect through standard observation, especially in closed or submerged production environments. Aquabyte BEHAVIOUR monitors swim speed, swim tilt, and breathing index, providing continuously updated data through the Aquabyte user portal - allowing you to detect deviations earlier and take the right measures before problems develop.

Aquabyte BEHAVIOUR monitors fish swim speed, swim tilt, and breathing index – and automatically stores video clips from the pen in a three-month archive.

Breathing index as gill health indicator
The breathing index shows how often the fish opens its mouth to pass water over its gills. This provides valuable insights into gill health, oxygen conditions, and the fish’s overall condition. By monitoring daily changes in breathing patterns, BEHAVIOUR detects early signs of impaired gill health or poor oxygen conditions, allowing you to take action before the situation worsens.
Aquabyte BEHAVIOUR tracks fish swim speed and streamlines mandatory reporting for submerged pens

Swim speed reveals stress
BEHAVIOUR provides accurate measurements of fish swim speed and issues alerts when fish are swimming faster than normal. Increased swim speed is a known indicator of stress and may point to environmental or biological challenges such as jellyfish, algae, intruding fish, or low oxygen levels. These automated measurements also make it easier to document and report conditions in submerged pens. In BEHAVIOUR, swim speed data is updated every 15 minutes.

Swim tilt as an indicator of system faults
Increased swim tilt may indicate that the fish is unable to fill its swim bladder, causing it to lose buoyancy. In submerged pens, such changes can reveal technical issues with the air dome at an early stage, allowing you to take action before fish welfare is affected. In BEHAVIOUR, swim tilt data is updated hourly throughout the day.
In addition to live streaming, the Aquabyte system automatically records videos from the pen and stores them for up to three months

It is documented on video
Aquabyte BEHAVIOUR records and stores video clips from the pen in a time-stamped archive for up to three months, providing a visual history that helps you detect unusual behaviour and document the effects of biological and environmental changes over time. The videos can easily be shared with colleagues.
