Lice

Aquabyte LICE provides accurate, daily updated lice counts – without the need for manual handling of the fish. Combined with lice forecasts two weeks into the future, you get a solid decision-making foundation and the insight you need to optimize both the timing and type of lice treatment. The result is more effective measures and fewer delousing events throughout the production cycle, leading to improved fish health and significantly reduced costs.
Complete insight into lice status
Lice counts are updated automatically every day, allowing you to quickly detect unwanted trends and act proactively – before challenges escalate.
No manual handling
Lice counts are recorded automatically, without time-consuming manual counting that stresses and harms the fish.
Fewer lice treatments
With continuous insight into daily lice counts, trends, and up to two weeks of lice forecasts, the number of treatments can be reduced.

Technology that builds trust

Our automatic lice counting is based on images captured by the Aquabyte camera in the pen. These images are analyzed using artificial intelligence and machine learning, providing precise counts of adult female lice, mobile lice, stationary lice, and Caligus (sea lice). In the Aquabyte User Portal, you have access to both the images used in the calculations and the results from all counts. By offering full transparency in how lice numbers are generated, we build trust among farmers, authorities, and the scientific community.

By providing one- and two-week lice forecasts, Aquabyte LICE makes it easier to plan treatments ahead of time.

Fewer lice treatments

Daily lice counts combined with up to two weeks of lice development predictions enable optimization of both treatment method and timing for maximum effect – in the short and long term. Having solid insight into lice status and development trends allows treatments to be postponed – or in the best case, avoided altogether. This reduces both the stress on the fish and the costs associated with delousing and production downtime.

Camera deployment

More accurate – less resource-intensive

Aquabyte LICE delivers daily lice counts with higher precision than traditional manual weekly sampling – without any physical handling of the fish. The result is improved fish health and welfare, while staff are spared time-consuming and strenuous work.

"Considering all the costs associated with lice treatments, reducing just one treatment can cover the investment in our system."

Aquabyte lice overview

See what's coming

Aquabyte LICE is the only automated lice counting system that provides forecasts for future lice development. Based on historical data, trends, and the current lice status, it calculates the probability of exceeding the permitted lice threshold one and two weeks into the future. If the lice threshold changes during the season, it can easily be adjusted in Aquabyte LICE.

End-to-end value creation

Smarter harvests through combined data

Aquabyte LICE gives you a complete overview of lice status and trends at both pen and site level. When these lice data are combined with information from our WEIGHT and WELFARE products, you gain an extra dimension of insight. This integrated view of lice levels, fish size and growth, and welfare status provides a unique, comprehensive decision-support tool – enabling you to choose the right pen to harvest at exactly the right time. The result: lower costs, improved fish welfare, and a higher proportion of superior-quality fish at harvest.
