We will provide fish farmers with good plans, not just good data.

So says Thea Østervold Hufthammer, Product Manager at Aquabyte and head of the team developing the next generation of decision support for the aquaculture industry.

Recommends production plans for the next six weeks
Aquabyte Decision Support gathers data from Aquabyte cameras, the farmer’s own systems and external sources in one system. Based on this data, it generates forecasts for biomass, lice, superior share and mortality in each pen.
An AI-based tool then uses these forecasts to create concrete production plans for the next six weeks. The plans include recommended actions such as full or partial harvests and delousing, at both pen and site level.

Optimised for the farmers own goals
The optimisation tool in Decision Support recommends actions and ranks plans against production goals set by the farmers themselves. Examples include achieving the highest possible production value, or the fewest possible delousing treatments during the planning period.
The calculations take important constraints into account, such as maximum allowable biomass (MAB) and harvest targets.
With Decision Support, the farmer still sets the goals and makes the final decisions. Decision Support provides a better basis for good choices, whether for a single pen, an entire site, a region or the whole company.
The farmer is still in the driver’s seat
With Decision Support, the farmer still sets the goals and makes the final decisions in production planning. What Decision Support provides is a better basis for making the choices that deliver the best results, whether for a single pen, an entire site, a region or the whole company.

Decision Support as a collaboration tool
In Decision Support, production plans can be shared, commented on and approved. This ensures that everyone involved in planning works from the same information. For the company, this means a more transparent planning process, fewer surprises and better control over delousing and harvest planning. Most importantly, it supports operations where fish welfare and profitability pull in the same direction.

Supported by Innovation Norway
Innovation Norway is an important partner in the development of Decision Support. It provides both funding and advice, and plays a key role in making the solution available to fish farming companies in Norway and internationally.
“Aquabyte is an innovative company and a driving force in data-driven aquaculture, with a particular focus on improving fish welfare. Their decision support tool is an exciting and ambitious project that can help strengthen the competitiveness of the Norwegian aquaculture industry, which is why it is important for us to invest in it,” says Lene Sælen, Senior Adviser at Innovation Norway Vestland.
Together with Senior Adviser Tore Alvheim, Lene Sælen is closely involved in the development of Aquabyte Decision Support.
