"Fish farmers should get good plans, not just good data"

So says Thea Østervold Hufthammer, Product Manager at Aquabyte and head of the team developing the next generation of decision support for the aquaculture industry.

Recommends production plans for the next six weeks
Aquabyte Decision Support brings together data from Aquabyte’s cameras, fish farmers’ own systems, and external sources in a single system. This data is used to generate forecasts for biomass, sea lice levels, Superior share, and mortality in each individual pen.
Using these forecasts, artificial intelligence then generates optimal production plans for the next six weeks. The plans include recommendations for actions such as full or partial harvesting and delousing, at both pen and site levels.

Optimised for the farmers own goals
Decision Support will suggest actions and rank different production plans based on objectives set by the fish farmer, such as maximising production value or minimising the number of delousing treatments during the planning period.
The plans also take into account important operational constraints, such as maximum allowed biomass (MAB) and harvest targets.
The farmer is still in the driver’s seat
With Aquabyte Decision Support, fish farmers gain a stronger foundation for making the right decisions, whether for an individual pen, an entire site, a region, or the company as a whole.
The system provides specific recommendations for the next six weeks, but it is still the fish farmer who sets the objectives and makes the final decisions in production planning.

Decision Support as a collaboration tool
In Decision Support, production plans can be shared, commented on, and approved. This ensures that everyone involved in production planning works from the same information and insights.
For fish farming companies, this means a more transparent and streamlined planning process, fewer surprises, and better control over the scheduling of delousing treatments and harvesting.
And most importantly, it contributes to operations where fish welfare and profitability go hand in hand.

Supported by Innovation Norway
Innovation Norway is an important partner in the development of Decision Support. It provides both funding and advice, and plays a key role in making the solution available to fish farming companies in Norway and internationally.
“Aquabyte is an innovative company and a driving force in data-driven aquaculture, with a particular focus on improving fish welfare. Their decision support tool is an exciting and ambitious project that can help strengthen the competitiveness of the Norwegian aquaculture industry, which is why it is important for us to invest in it,” says Lene Sælen, Senior Adviser at Innovation Norway Vestland.
Together with Senior Adviser Tore Alvheim, Lene Sælen is closely involved in the development of Aquabyte Decision Support.
